It was released on October 2, 2012; at the time of release, Evancho was 12 years old. The album is composed of 12 songs used in popular films, arranged by Bill Ross. The songs include a mix of ballads from Disney films, romantic and whimsical themes, and songs that were originally written as singles or show tunes. A DVD of the special was given as a pledge gift by PBS and was later bundled with the Target stores' "Deluxe Edition" of ''Songs of the Silver Screen''. Evancho promoted the album with television appearances and a concert tour. The first leg of the tour ran from August 2012 to June 2013, and a second leg of the tour ran from October 2013 to June 2014.
